The form of the building derives from the fact that, given its function, it must establish a careful and dignified relationship with the space in which it is situated. The building forms part of the broader vision for the future complex of the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, and the primary objective was therefore to establish a high-quality architectural dialogue through its form, choice of materials, proportions, and architectural expression. The inspiration for the building\u2019s design is drawn from the form of a wave, with the roof planes conceived as three reinforced-concrete shells. These emphasize the visual lightness of the building and, consequently, its symbolic connection between the ritual performed within it and the sky above.<\/p>\n
The building is organized around a central hall connected to three spaces for the viewing of the deceased. The interior is visually extended by a covered portico and a plaza dimensioned to accommodate a large number of visitors. The design provides visitors with high-quality and varied views from all directions, particularly from the promenade envisaged by the urban development plan. In this way, although temporary in character, the building integrates fully into the future setting of the complex. The building is single-storey, with clearly separated public and service areas.<\/p>\n
